Opening Doors: Wheel the World Maps Local Businesses

Door County, WI – Destination Door County (DDC) is excited to share that a trained Mapper from Wheel the World—a global leader in accessible travel—is currently in Door County, working to assess local tourism businesses and attractions for accessibility.

This visit is part of DDC's ongoing collaboration with Wheel the World through their Destination Verified program. The goal is to make sure Door County is equipped to welcome all travelers—including those with disabilities—with confidence, transparency, and dignity.

Wheel the World Mappers are trained to collect over 200 accessibility data points per location using their Accessibility Mapping System. The information they gather will be used to help travelers with disabilities better plan their trips and navigate Door County with ease. Mapped locations will also be listed on WheeltheWorld.com, where travelers can filter and book accommodations, experiences, and attractions that match their needs.

"This is a great opportunity for our local businesses to be part of something meaningful—helping Door County become more inclusive and accessible to all,” said Amanda Stuck, DDC's Community Engagement Manager.

Over 30 local businesses and Door County locations are being mapped this month, and in the spring of 2026 additional slots will be available for businesses interested in signing up through DDC to be mapped. Once a visit is scheduled, it typically includes on-site observations, simple measurements (like door widths and bed heights), and some questions about accessibility features. Participation is free of charge and businesses will be featured, and help represent Door County, on a globally recognized travel platform serving a community of over 80,000 travelers with accessibility needs.

If your business would like to participate or has questions about the process, please contact DDC's Amanda Stuck, amanda@doorcounty.com or 920-450-5460.
